Network
The European ODL Liaison Committee tried to agree on a common viewpoint on ICT in higher education.

Objectives and activities
The ODL Liaison Committee's aims were:

• to create a forum for the exchange of views in the field of open and distance learning,
• to improve communication between the networks.
• to express common opinions and goals of the European ODL organisations
• to facilitate the engineering of Europe-wide projects
• to promote partnerships in this field in conjunction with other European initiatives,
• to give recommendations to the European Commission and Member States and
• to assist in defining and implementing action plans and programmes in order to enhance the integration of ICT in learning.

EuroPACE amongst other things, contributed to their policy papers.

Closing down of the network
The European ODL Liaison Committee played a remarkable role during the almost one decade since its establishment in the field of network collaboration and policy development. The changing environment was meanwhile justifying the reconsideration of its functions. Late 2007, it was agreed amongst the members, that the Committee had fulfilled its mission and should be closed.
The further valorisation of its achievements may be best done in a new framework.
For this, the LEARNOVATION initiative seemed to offer appropriate conditions.
