WELCOME

Project: Web-based E-Learning for SME and Craftsmen of Modern Europe (WELCOME)

Duration: 18 months (april 2005 ? august 2006)

Coordinator: Berufsbildungszentrum Hellweg e.V. (BBZ) (DE)

Partners: Bit media e-Learning solution GmbH & Co KG (AT),University of Science and Technology (AGH-UST) (PL), Budapest Enterprise Agency (HU), Didagroup S.p.A. (IT), INGENATIC GmbH (DE), EuroPACE (BE), Labour Resources Agency (LT), R. & S. Keller GmbH (DE)

Role EuroPACE: EuroPACE is work package leader for WP6, Validation and Evaluation of Pilot Runs. EuroPACE contributes to the "Strategy Report on how to address certification bodies and implement EU-wide accepted certificates in the long-term".

Summary: The WELCOME service will address current and anticipated re-skilling needs of technically oriented SME, craftsmen and individuals. As a result of the growing technical complexity at the workplace (introduction of new machines and technologies) in SME a continuous need to upgrade the technical competencies of employees is emerging. However, on a European scale, no e-learning courses with technical contents adjusted to the needs of SME are available.

The WELCOME service will fill this supply gap and offer a combined set of five premium e-learning courses with technical topics, specifically tailored to the needs of the target group. All courses will be adjusted/adapted to local requirements, offer standardised placement tests for determining the course level appropriate to each person?s prior education, allow self-guided learning to be completed at the learner?s own pace, be up to date and highly practical, contain interactive multimedia elements and take into account the characteristics and learning styles of adult learners. Additionally all courses will include final examinations rewarding successful participants with a certificate, which will be accepted across the corresponding country and at a later stage also throughout Europe.
The following course topics will be covered by WELCOME:
  • ECDL: European Computer Driving Licence (software knowledge)
  • EBDL: European Business Driving Licence (basic business knowledge)
  • EICTDL: European Information Communication Technologies Pass (computer hardware/network knowledge)
  • EMDL: European Mechatronics Pass (Mechatronics knowledge)
  • ECNCDL: European CNC Pass (Knowledge for using and programming CNC machines)
Project Results: (1) Real working virtual mobility actions within the real environment of mainstream education of the partners; (2) Concrete and validated procedures as well as recommendations at institutional, network (local as well as transnational and European level, published in a manual about a global framework for networked e-learning, as a further development of the existing Manual for a Collaborative European Virtual University (finished cEVU project); (3) Tools and techniques that support the virtual mobility actions, including training materials; (4) Effective dissemination to stimulate uptake of the outcomes inside and outside the (extended) partnership
